Blue really loves his Jasper!! They are always together. Some times I think Jas gets annoyed at how clingy Blue can be.
Jasper is doing amazing! Most days I forget that he is “disabled”…
Last week I took him to Brittany’s Resource special ed class, she did a report on Golden Retrievers and she brought Jas in to show and tell. The kids were awesome with him as he was with them. It was good for the kids to see that just because he looks different and may have some limitations he is just like every other dog. They were surprised to see him run down the hallway after a ball, and to hear that he can still dig huge holes in the yard (I know bad Jasper!!). My parting message was just because he is “disabled” doesn’t mean he is out of the game!!
Can you guys believe it has been 99 days ( 3 months 9 days) since his surgery!!! Some days it feels like it was just yesterday and then some days if feels like it has been forever!!
Without each one of you and your thoughts/prayers, calling me checking on Jasper, being there for me to cry to… I DO NOT KNOW WHERE WE WOULD BE TODAY. Thank you all so much for being there for Jasper and my self. Good for Jasper! And thanks for the post. My name is Ginny. Today is the fourth day since our Jesse lost her left rear leg to amputation. She’s a doberman mix and her favorite thing to do was to break out and fly over our four foot fence like a thoroughbred. She did that last week but caught her leg on a neighbor’s fence. We looked hard for her,but we live in a heavily wooded area and it was 41 hours before she was found. Docs tried for two days to save her leg but there was too much damage. She’s doing well. Resting and on pain meds. I’m not doing so well. I feel a strong sense of loss and I’m still very worried about her recovery. Looking forward to having this three months behind us. Again thanks for the post it gives me hope that she’ll have a good life someday soon.
I am not going to lie the 1st week was the hardest for me. I went through some serious depression and mourning of his leg. I am so happy our vet kept Jasper a few extra days because I was having a hard time. Jasper also lost his leg due to a accident, he was hit by a car 🙁 …. Like I wrote there are some days I totally forget that he is “disabled”. He is doing awesome, as I am writing this he is laying on the floor with his cat Blue….
Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one who feels this way. It’s been a roller coaster. Feeling that we’d lost her, knowing she’d be home if she wasn’t badly injured or dead some how, then great relief and tears when she was found, she walked to the car, went straight to the vet who told us she’d have to have leg removed, then the next day we were told he might be able to save her leg. The next morning vet was very optimistic, but by late afternoon two vets agreed the leg had to come off in order for her to recover. I think she’s having an easier time than my husband and I. So glad we found this sight. My friends are supportive but can’t completely understand. I just can’t stop thinking about her. Thanks again for sharing your experience and feelings.
Hey Ginny! Welcome to you and Jesse and the rest of your family! You are definitely not alone and you have come to THE place for lots of support and info on all things Tripawd. Here’s hoping you start a blog or post in the forums so we can get to know you and Jesse better 🙂
Thank you. As soon as my daughter shows me how to upload photos I will tell the rest of Jesse’s story. Right now I’m going to get her more tramadol. Will share more as time allows. Still have lots of concerns and questions. It’s good to be able to read of others experiences.
Woohoo for Jasper! We are so glad you are part of this community and showing the world that Tripawds are most awesome. Love that you went for show and tell and I am sure those kids learned alot from you!! You are rocking it big buddy!
Awww love you too!
Nothin’ better than a Tripawd at show and tell, and nothing more inspawrational either. Yay for all of you!
