Some one cheated on their diet…..

Jasper cheated on his diet……. Ok I allowed him to cheat on his diet.  He loves to clean the peanut butter jar.  I was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to hang on to the jar.  He use to hold it between his front arms so it would not roll away…. looks like he figured it out!!! I love him so much

  1. It’s really hard to deny your beloved dog a treat that they like. As a 10 year 3 legged Mom , trust me on this, deny now because trying to lose weight later is way worse. Weight management is probably the most important thing to do when you have a tripod.

    1. He is on a prescribed metabolic diet…. and went from over 80 pounds down to 67 pounds. His vet wanted him between 65-70 pounds. So I figure one cheat day is ok….

  2. Wow! Jasper’s weight loss is awesome! You did a great job with that because, yes, it is hard to deny them a treat once in awhile.

I am also a long-time tripawd mom with three GSD tripawds and agree that keeping them at the proper weight is huge. We monitor their weight constantly. One of them came to us severely underweight and we got busy trying to get him up to a healthy weight. At 80 pounds he looked perfect! Success! But then all of a sudden he could barely walk–he was just carrying too much weight 🙁 So we had to reverse course and put him on a diet! He now weighs 70 and is thin as a rail (alot of people probably think we are horrible pet parents and that we are starving him) but he gets around great. We keep him in between 70 and 72. Anything heavier than that and he starts to have trouble.

That said, they all get treats and a frosty cone every once in awhile with no problem. As long as you keep Jasper within the range of his ideal weight (more towards the low end of the range will be best) he will be fine. Cleaning out the peanut butter jar every once in awhile won’t ruin him!

And I love how he figured out how to hold the jar with one paw. Our tripawds are nothing if not adaptable!

Does Jasper like fruit and veg? That is a great way to treat him without packing on any extra pounds. Codie Rae loves fruit and knows the words banana, watermelon, and tangerine. All I have to do is pick up a piece of fruit and she comes running 🙂
